A - Howard Road Academy requires each student to be in full uniform daily. Our uniform includes a burgundy/maroon collared golf shirt embroidered with the school name. For girls--khaki pants, skirt, or shorts. For boy--khaki pants or shorts. Students are required to wear their shirts tucked in. Also, brown or black belt and shoes are required. Shoes need to be totally enclosed (no sandals or "mules".) Also, shoes should not have a logo or name-brand displayed.
Middle School students are expected to wear the items required for the new uniform which includes a long-sleeved white dress shirt, tie (young men), khaki bottoms, black or brown shoes and a black or brown belt. Students will be expected to be in full uniform (including blazer) by October 1, 2007. The school will be selling blazers to the students. A date, time and cost will be announced. You do not have to purchase the blazer from Campus Outfitters at this time. If you have any questions please, email or call Mrs. Crawford at ncrawford@howardroadacademy.org or 202.610.4193.
Uniform shirts are available for sale at the school or you can order them through Campus Outfitters. Our school code is H01039.
Q - If I want my child to be dismissed early, what should I do?
A - Write a note to the main office including the student's name, reason for dismissal, time of dismissal and signature of parent. If someone other than a parent is going to pick up your child, please include that information in your note. A parent/guardian must report to the office to pick up the child bringing in the proper ID to sign out your child.
Q - When my child returns to school after being absent, what should I do?
A - Please send in a note with the student's name, date(s) of absence and reason for absence. This needs to be handed in to the homeroom teacher.
Q - How do I go about scheduling a Parent-Teacher Conference?
A - You can arrange a conference with your child's teacher by way of e-mail or leave them a message on their voicemail by calling the office @ (202) 610-4193. You will find each teacher's e-mail link on this website's STAFF page.
Q - Can I visit my child's classroom?
A - Parental involvement is encouraged and appreciated at HRA. However, it is best to make arrangements with your child's teacher if you would like to observe in the classroom. On the day you observe, you will need to check in with the front office before you go into your child's classroom.
Q - If I am driving my child to school, where do I need to drop them off?
A - All students should be dropped off IN the HRA parking lot to ensure their safety as we have parking lot attendants on duty daily.
